We need to raise funds to provide Whisper with a heart surgery she must have in order to survive. Whisper was adopted from the Riverside shelter by a family, who later returned her to the shelter because it was discovered she had a heart murmur. As if loosing her family wasn’t bad enough, because of Whisper’s condition, she was in danger of being euthanized. Thankfully, Lovebugs Rescue was at the shelter pulling other dogs, and heard Whisper’s plea.
We immediately got Whisper in to see our regular vet, who determined the heart murmur was very “loud”. They recommended she see a specialist in order to have an echocardiogram performed. The specialist determined that Whisper has a heart condition called Patent Ductus Arteriosus. This birth defect causes blood in the heart to divert in abnormal patterns in the heart and will eventually cause congestive heart failure from blood volume overload. Thankfully, there is a surgery that can correct this condition by inserting a mesh device that will cause the blood to clot in the opening and the heart to return to it’s normal function.
